God told Adam and Eve to not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, but something called them away.
There are so many times in the bible where God tells his people to do one thing and they do another. Simply because the devil is calling them to do the opposite.
Christ tells us in Matthew 5:21, "You shall not murder" and what do we see on the news just about everyday?
Christ tells us in Matthew 5:27, "You shall not commit adultery" and what do we see happening all around us?
Christ tells us in Matthew 5:44, "love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you..." and what do we see people doing today?
Christ tells us in Matthew 6:1, "Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them..." and what are people out doing?
Christ tells us in Matthew 6:14, "if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." and people are still holding grudges.
Christ tells us in Matthew 6:19, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal..." and what are people doing?
Christ tells us in Matthew 6:24, "No one can serve two masters..." but what are men trying to do?
Christ tells us in Matthew 6:25, "do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?" Yet, people are making such a big deal out of them.
Christ tells us in Matthew 7:1-6, "Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces." Yet, again, people are doing this!
Christ tells us in Matthew 7:13, "Enter by the narrow gate..." Yet, people everyday are doing things that push themselves further and further away from it.
Christ tells us in Matthew 7:15, "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves." Yet, we let our guards down.
Everyday we are faced with the decision, "Am I going to do what is right or what is wrong?"
I encourage you to do what is right. I encourage you to follow what the bible says, leaving nothing out. I encourage you to try your best in everything that you do, especially when something as important as your soul is at stake.
The devil is calling us away from our God. I encourage you to plug your ears. Do not listen to him. Do not follow him.
Follow God. Study his word. Live by his word. Be the Christian that he wants you to be.
I know that it is easier said than done, but we can do it. Together we can achieve eternal life.
